I went to my work programme today as am going to start it this week and they wanted to see my bank statement to see if I am getting JSA.

I have shown them my JSA paperwork which states I am getting JSA but they want to see if I am actually getting it paid into my bank account.

I am confused why they want to see my bank statement and has anyone here ever been asked to show their bank statement/ are they allowed to ask and can you refuse?

    Many Thanks

Tell them to "Fornicate Off!" In the nicest possible way of course! Why they need to see your bank details is a mystery!

Should this advisor still press the issue, ask him / her exactly why they need such details and if it is standard practice. Take it further and ask to speak to their manager if necessary.

Some may see this as trivial. However, you'd hardly give such details to strangers you walk past in the street. Well, these advisers are just as much strangers as well as you do not know them from Adam!

When I was on the A4e new deal thing, they insisted on seeing my car insurance!

And when signing up to the program, they wanted my passport, NI id (p45) and rent book!

Once these types get a tiny bit of power it goes to their heads.
