Work programme asking to see bank statement?

I went to my work programme today as am going to start it this week and they wanted to see my bank statement to see if I am getting JSA.
I have shown them my JSA paperwork which states I am getting JSA but they want to see if I am actually getting it paid into my bank account.
I am confused why they want to see my bank statement and has anyone here ever been asked to show their bank statement/ are they allowed to ask and can you refuse?
Many Thanks

LOL WHAT????
IF you are on the WP the Job Centre have sent you there, yes?
DO NOT SHOW THEM your bank statements they do not need to see them! We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
If the request is verbal, then tell them to put it in writing. If it is in writing already, come back for more inputYou might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0

It was verbal but they said I need to bring my original bank statements so I can start tomorrow, if I don't bring it then I can't start tomorrow.
What should I do? Do you think I should call the DWP and tell them that they are asking for my bank statements?
What did you need to show your work programme people?
Many Thanks0 -

You do not need to show them a bank statement to be on the WP
Did the job centre send you there?
What did I need to show them? Nothing!!!We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Turn up. If they refuse to allow you to start and yet they have the paperwork from the jobcentre and otherwise they are prepared to start you, ask them to kindly contact the jobcentre while you wait. If they refuse, ask them to put in writing that you turned up and the reason they give for not accepting you.
There is no reason for them to see a bank statement showing receipt of JSA. Maybe you have gone paperless as far as bank statements are concerned so don't have one to show them.
The only possible reason I can see for wanting a bank statement is not for proof that you are receiving JSA but for confirmation of your address. However, whatever they have from the jobcentre should confirm your ID and this is not reasonable IMO.0 -
Did you ask why? As stated you do not need to show a bank statement.mrnewguy2009 wrote: »Yes the job centre sent me there, what do you think I should do now as the woman said if I don't show my bank statement I can't start...
Turn up and ask for it in writing then get on their phone and call the job centre where you sign. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

You could always black out all other in\out goings on your statement, just leaving them with a line to show your JSA going in.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

But the point is they do not need to see it for you to be on the WPYou could always black out all other in\out goings on your statement, just leaving them with a line to show your JSA going in.We’ve had to remove your signature.
