1990s PPI Claim Problems

I'm having problems claiming for two mis-sold PPI policies from the late 1990s. I'm interested if anyone can offer advice as both the Financial Ombudsman Service and the Financial Services Compensation Scheme suggest it will be difficult to hold anyone accountable. I had two consecutive 24 month PPI policies running between 1995-1997 with Ford Credit Europe Bank alongside a couple of part-financed car purchases. The Ford dealerships aggressively sold them as 'helpful' to the finance application. I didn't need them either and was too young/dumb back then to challenge the dealers. I recently contacted FCE to progress a claim to be told they were not liable. On the advice of the FOS I was directed to Consolidated Life Assurance Co. Ltd/Consolidated Marine General Insurance Ltd - both of whom were stated as the underwriters on the original policy documents. I then learned that Windsor Life Assurance took over 'Consolidated's business so contacted them. They said that 'Consolidated Marine General Insurance Ltd' was the specific business underwriting the PPI policies and that they only acquired the Life Assurance element (I can't confirm this so have to take their word on it). They said that Consolidated Marine General Insurance Ltd dissolved sometime around 2000. The FOS say that if the complaint is against a dissolved company I'd have to go through the FSCS. The FSCS say as the policy predated 2005 there is nothing they can do. Beyond contacting the Citizens Advice Bureau (or some specialist lawyer!), I'm unclear if I have any real options left. Any comments would be very welcome!

If the company was dissolved before 2005 then it's game over.

Car dealerships weren't regulated prior to 2005. You've tried the underwriters and they are not around so...you are out of options

Why would you doubt these august bodies?

Why would CAB be able to help where FOS and FSCS failed?

    Your complaint is over.

I never doubted the advice given by FOS/FSCS for a minute! They had confirmed there was no more either of them could do for the reasons explained, however, they did both advise I contact the CAB. This led me to believe there may be another course of action outside of their jurisdiction so I was interested to see if anyone had been able to hold anyone accountable. With no company/too much time, clearly a no go then. Cheers for the comments.

Yes, so why have you posted yet another thread asking the same question just a few days later?

I haven't - it is not the same question if you read it properly. It is a separate query (purposefully put in a separate thread) and aimed at others who took out historic Ford PPI policies specifically to try to clarify who the underwriters of the original policies were - two companies (who apparently were separate entities under the same group of businesses) were referenced on the documents and it is not clear. One is still active (in the sense that the acquiring company is active); the other apparently not so. Plus I have some new information since posting the first comment which leads me to believe that I may have been misled by the company who provided me with that initial feedback - hence the desire to ask a new question (if that's okay with you?) I am clear that as the policies are pre-2005, my complaint pre-dates regulation and any prospect of being successful is probably close to nil, but if the underwriters do actually still exist, then I may at least have a new line of enquiry to follow up on - if nothing more. You should note that my new question is aimed at those with experience of dealing with Ford, so unless you have such experience - or anything helpful to share, may I ask you to please stop commenting on my threads? It's obnoxious comments like the ones you have made which turn new users off. A shame as this site is a great resource.

I am Andy!! Just that as a new user, I was hoping to get some good advice for my problem but instead end up getting all my threads ambushed by the same guy with obnoxious comments (apart from his very first one which was useful). I'm not remotely precious (!) but he has already started to wind me up!! Maybe he has some kind of a crush on me...

    You can ask...:D

May I ask that you confine your problem to the same thread instead of opening new ones or bumping up old ones?
    Didn't think so!:p
