Car Traders policy for 21 year old

Hi all ,

Does anyone know of a company that will insure a 21 year old as a car trader as ive rang around a few companies and not had much luck (or they wanted 5k!)

my bother owns a car pitch and does general sales and moving about and it'd be a big help if i could drive the cars ,

His is up for renewal soon so the policy wont even be in my name it will be in my brothers who is a lot older than me he just needs to be able to add a 21 year old to his policy.

Thanks

  • Has your brother rung his own insurers? That would make the most sense if all he wants to do is add a driver.
I don't like chick flicks, I get grazed knuckles doing my own car repairs and I ride a massive cruiser motorbike. To many this makes me a bloke in disguise but to my husband this makes me perfect

What's your involvement in the motortrade and your brother's business?

What payments do you receive from your brother?

As above are employed and are you on the books with proper payslips etc?

He needs to find another company, Not all terms will be 25+.

The cheaper ones will be though.

You're not really a trader if it's not a bonafide business so arranging one in your own name is pointless.

Your brother should look at a "premises" policy which is designed for proper garages eg not people trading from home. They tend to offer cover for additional drivers under 25.

If he does this you should note as this is really really important it will not cover you for vehicles in your own name it will only cover vehicles that are GENUINELY in your brothers custody or control. It will only cover you to drive in connection with his motortrade business eg collection / delivery, test drives and popping to the motor factor etc. It will not cover you for driving privately and especially won't cover you to drive your own cars privately.

The Police are not stupid and tend to look into young drivers who are on a trade policy when they stop them.

As above your not in the trade. If you have a bump they could ask for payslips or bank statements to prove you actually work there. Which you dont so they wont payout.
