Insurer not reinstated my NCB

Got renewal today. I had a claim in feb where a driver went into the back of me while I was stationary. I got my excess back through my insurance solicitors do presumed was all done. But my renewal has gone from my 9 years down to 4 years as they say claim still open. I would have thought claim would be closed as I received my excess. Obviously can't even do comparison quotes with my rightful 9 years now.
This seems to be really common but first time for me. I have said I do not want to renew so all I will ever have is renewal letter saying 4 years? I can understand that if I stayed with them they would reinstate and reduce premium but I'm not renewing so how can I get my no claims back and in writing!
Thanks

Until they have recovered all the costs it will probably stay open.
You would probably have done better claiming directly off the 3rd party and just let your insurance know of the incident. Bit late now though.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

I realised that very early on
but as soon as you call your insurance (which it states you have to) they virtually insist that they handle the claim and not to have anything to do with the other side.
I have learned an important lesson with this. Basically what a massive scam insurance is, with regards to accident management company hire cars, solicitors, etc etc0 -
Ask them for it.frames1_uk wrote: »so how can I get my no claims back and in writing!0 -

They might try to pursuade you but they cannot force you.
Sorry but it sounds like you fell for their (strong arm) tactics.
Not trying to make you feel bad but next time make sure you know your rights.0 -
Ask them for it.
I have, they just said the 'claim is still open' although I can't see how, when I've had my excess refunded.
What I want to know is:
When I go with a new insurer this week, once I get quotes (for 4 years NCB) will the new insurer reduce my premium? I can understand how that happens when you stay with the one you had the claim with.0 -
Presumably the claim is open because they haven't been refunded.
I meant ask them for a revised proof of NCB once it is settled.
Ask the new insurer if they will reduce the premium at a later date.0 -

Just because you've had your cheque doesnt mean your insurer's have had theirs.
People tend to be more bothered about getting their money quickly compared to insurers plus proof of paying your excess is easier than your insurers proving that only accident related damage was repaired and a reasonable price was paid for it.
Speak to your insurer's claims department and see where they are on it. Have they actually paid the garage, recovery, engineers etc yet? Have they requested reimbursment from the TPI get? When did they last chase? What backlog do they have?
For a simple claim happening when yours did I would guestimate that about 6 months would be reasonable for finalisation of the claim.
As to new insurers, you will have to speak to them on the phone BEFORE buying, some may allow you to change the NCD mid term in these circumstances, certainly some wont.0 -
All sorted. The company in question responded to my complaint and reinstated full NCB.0
