Please help a novice with a wireless question. I'm not very good at searching either so apologise if this has been answered several times before.
I am thinking of getting NTL broadband - am currently on dial-up. The desktop I would want to connect with is not in a convenient location for cabling and so I was thinking about using a wireless router and USB adaptor (I don't like opening the PC up!) - I was looking at some Linksys kit. I am not thinking about networking, it is just to connect the one PC.
Can I have a system where the router is connected to the STB/cable modem (whichever it will be) and the adaptor to the desktop or does a system need to be hard wired at some point?
Thanks

No reliance should be placed on the above.

The system will need to be hard wired to set up the modem/router to connect to the internet. Once that is done you will be able to use the wireless usb adapter.
personally i'd buy a cheap second hand computer that you can keep connected to the router via wires in case anything goes wrong with the set up of the modem/router. It doesn't need to be fancy just have enough space for the OS and either onboard or a stand alone network card.Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.0 -
