Please advise on life insurance problem

Hello all,

I posted a while ago regarding my claim for my fiance's life insurance she passed away in Oct 2012 we had to wait until apr 17th for the inquest which ruled accidental death.

Zurich have now written to me asking to contact her doctor for medical history! im furious she was hit by a car how can they possibly want that? i know she had no conditions or anything like that but what is the likley reason they would want this other than trying to weasle out of paying? There will be nothing she did not declare however the night the accident happened she was out celebrating and had a few drinks will they use this as a reason not to pay? any advise would be appreciated im worried sick about this as I used all my saving etc to pay for the funeral.

Thanks

Shane

    Sorry for your loss.

It's standard practice and part of the process to ensure that the application disclosures were correct.

Nothing to worry about. Declined claims due to deliberate non-disclosure account for something like 2% of total claims.

The quicker you comply the quicker you will get paid.

Conversley if you don't comply they won't pay you!

It is difficult to give reasons without knowing any facts. However, one scenario could be that they are looking at mental health issues. Was she depressed and was that an influence for example.

You know that but they don't.

Maybe her alcohol levels were so high that they are looking at whether there are historical alcohol concerns. These are all reasons why an insurer needs to ask questions. However, these are routine in cases like you indicate. Nothing to get worried about. Also, the insurer may be looking at whether it can reclaim its costs against a third party and wants to check the facts before making that decision.
