weekend somewhere warm?

has anyone been or about to go somewhere warm for the weekend? obviously we don't want to spend our entire weekend travelling, so, a country with a 2 hour flight is pointless if the transfer to holiday is another 22 hours and we have found a lot of them when we have searched. we are able to travel anytime after 8pm Thursday or early Friday morning and would want to be back sunday evening. would even at push consider a break within a 1 hr 30 min drive from London if it is a remarkable offer. would appreciate any help

Fly into Malaga and use the train from the airport to a whole bunch of places down the Costa del Sol

That's what I do whenever I feel like a few days away in the sun. There are loads of cheap flights to Malaga and more cheap hotels than you shake a stick at. As you say, the train makes getting around very easy so there's no need to hire a car. It's not always the classiest part of the world but if you want value for money then it's hard to beat.

Otherwise Madrid is always good for a weekend. It may not have the architecture or beaches of Barcelona but I tend to find Madrid to be a more laid back and affordable city. And it has fewer pickpockets too.

We're heading to Palma, Majorca next month for a long weekend; early flight Friday morning 06:55, returning Monday afternoon. We fly out of London City Airport which will mean a cab at that time of the morning but is only about half an hour from us, public transport home on the Monday.

Hotel is in Palma, so about 20 minutes transfer from the airport. We are flying BA so not too cheap, it maybe that there other flights cheaper but we wanted to try flying in/out of City.

Should be lovely & warm too.
