son as named driver

Options
I have a car insurance policy in my name and my 21 yr old son as the named driver - if I buy another car also in my name - is there an insurance company that will allow my son to remain as the named driver on my first car? I am with Frizzell at the moment, and they have said that if I have more than one policy in my name, then my son will have to be the main driver on one of them. Is there a way around this?

Legally, if your son drives the car more than you do, then it's an offence to state that he is a named driver and not the main one.

Are you basically giving the car you have now to your son, and trying to keep the cost down by keeping the policy in your name? If so, that is called 'fronting' and it is illegal.

Do you realise you won't be able to use your no claims on both cars?

thanks for that, haven't looked into this before, didn't realise that it was an offence.

It is unlikely that any prosecutions will be made. It happens all the time... I mean a Peugeot 106 with alloys and nice tyres, massive exhaust, nice paint, and 2,000,000 watts of sound and it belongs to Mum? I don't think so......:rotfl:
As expensive as it is, everyone needs to get their own insurance started and build up no claims. I am in the same boat, but my daughter is only learning. As soon as she passes her test, I doubt we will ever see the wife's car.... So she will need to get her own insurance.
