You do have to prove that you have been looking for work, but this could be answering an advert in the newspaper, phoning for an application form, or sending your CV to various agencies. Keep evidence of having done these.

You will not get JSA (income based) if you are not looking for work.
Thanks, I guess then as I have no NI contributions to my name I'd be best not applying, or maybe applying and blagging applications but I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with going to the office and all I'd done in the past 2 weeks is phone for an applicaiton form!! :o
Blackadder: Baldrick, I have a very, very, very cunning plan.
Baldrick: Is it as cunning as a fox what used to be Professor of Cunning at Oxford University but has moved on and is now working for the U.N. at the High Commission of International Cunning Planning?
    Blackadder: Yes it is.
    Baldrick: Hmm... that's cunning.

your best bet would be to either go andf see them to ask all these questions, then you'd be told what you can and cant have!
it might be an idea to (if poss) withdraw your money and store in a safe place! (bit naughty!!!)

Thanks - I did think of this but then remembered about them asking for statements... if they do ask for statements it could turn out to be awkward. :o

So what's Income Support for then? :o

you wont be entitled to IS
    Income Support
    What is it?

Income Support provides financial help for people between 16 and 60 who are on a low income who are not in full-time paid work and who are in one of the groups of people who can claim Income Support. It can help you with day-to-day living expenses.
It is not paid to unemployed people who have to be available for and actively seeking work (they may be able to get Jobseeker's Allowance instead).
You may not have to go to the Jobcentre Plus office regularly if you are:
    • a lone parent
    • sick or disabled
    • unable to work because you are caring for someone, or
    • registered blind.
your savings should tide you over until you find a job, you have too much savings to apply for benefits.
