can you use 1899 with Homecall (BT)?

I thought I was a new user of 1899 this weekend. Successfully registered with 1899 and got the email but have rung Germany twice and received an email from 1899 this morning asking why I hadnt yet used it!!
Im on a BT line but using Home call line rental and Home call charges. Does Home call block 1899?

You can log-on to Call1899 and check the online bill.

Have you been dialling (prefixing) 1899 before dialling the number you wish to call?

Try just dialling 1899 on its own (if possible) and see if you get a message of any kind.

It is possible that HomeCall have blocked access to the short code (aka indirect access code) 1899 and you may have to use freephone number first before dialling the number you want!

Only BT have to allow access to other telephone networks like OneTel, TalkTalk, Call18866 & Call1899, etc. Other telephone line providers do not have to.

If this is the case you should be able to get away with it by dialling Call1899 freephone number first (see Call1899 Mobile Rates for more info.

You could get an Orchid Dialler box that would automatically route calls to any provider you have signed up with depending on time of day (daytime, evening & weekend) and type of call, etc.

Is it worth the the few pounds saving per year to have your line rental paid to HomeCall?
