moving house-help needed
I am a student currently living in university residences, so no worry of
gas and electricity at the moment. In a week I am planning to move to a house
outside with friends.
The house I am planning to move, the previous tenants moved out a week
before. So when I move there will electricity and gas be still there ? From
what I know I think we have to take the meter reading and setup a new account with a fuel company . Is it true?

you can either stick with the supplier they used or change to your own. The gas/elec may still be on so you should be able to just ring up and set up your account and yes they will ask for a meter reading.0

If the previous tennants only just moved out, then the gas and elec should definately still be connected. Yes, you phone up the appropriate suppliers and they will set up a new account in your name. And yes you can decide to switch suppliers if you want to.Indecision is the key to flexibility0

How do i know, who was the supplier for Gas & elec in the house. I dont have
access to the meter of the house yet.0 -
You need to register with the existing providers and give them readings when you get the keys, even if you are planning to switch.
You can find out the gas provider by calling Transco on 0870 6081524. For electricity contact your local MPAS service (should be in your Yellow Pages or search either these forums or the energywatch website for more information).0
