Re: Taking son outside UK but name not on birth certificate?

hope someone can help.
We are planning to take our son to Latvia to be looked after by her gran for 5 weeks. Unfortunately my wife cannot go as she is nearing her due date. Which leaves me to do it. The things is my name is not present in the birth certificate of my son.
Can my wife provide me a letter permitting me to take my son over there? I am planning to go in two weeks time by Ryanair.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

the question is do you both have passports which are the documents you both need to travel on.
If the answer is yes then a letter will be fine.
If he hasn't got a passport you need to sort one out pretty fast

thank you. yes we both have passports. just wondering does the letter need to be stamped by solicitor?

I've taken children abroad with different names (grandchildren, friends etc) and just taken a letter, never had a problem.
