Submeter reading or master meter reading

I have just finished a short term rental. The property I rented is the landlord's own house. The adjoining property is also owned by the landlord. At the start of the rental I was told the electricity for both properties was submetered. My electricity usage has been calculated based solely on the readings taken from the meter in the property I was renting. However I now believe that the meter in the property I was renting was the master meter (the landlord had not previously rented this property). The landlord has failed to supply me with a copy of the most recent electricity statement or any documentation about the meter. Is there any way I can find out if the meter I was reading was a submeter or master meter? I do have a photo of the meter and am in now in contact with the tenant of the adjoining property.

If you set up an account direct with the supplier, it would be the master meter.
If you were paying the LL for the energy, then the LL cannot make any profit on the reselling of electricity.
You could ask the LL to see the bill he receives from the energy supplier to check you were not being overcharged ... and that will set your mind at rest as to whether or not you were paying for both properties.0
