Cashback query re Gas switch

I am presently with EDF on the fixed rate which will expire in August, and think that it would be worthwhile switching now to their longer fixed rate.
My question is, can you use cash back sites if you are switching deals even if you will remain with the same supplier?

    No you can't.
Why would a supplier pay you a cashback just to switch tariff with them?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Really, I'm shocked and appalled, clearly a case for the ECHR.
