Should I get travel insurance for this trip?

When I go abroad I always get travel insurance, mainly due to the risk of incurring high medical expenses.

When I holiday in the UK, I never take out travel insurance because I haven't got the risk of having to pay medical bills and, although it would cover me for things like cancelled trips and lost/stolen possessions, the amounts involved, after deducting the excess, would be fairly small anyway.

In a couple of months, I'm going to Northern Ireland for about a week. Because a) I'm flying there and b) it's on a separate island I'm kind of wondering if I need to think differently about this. Are there any additional risks/potential costs which should persuade me to take out travel insurance for this trip?

(Because I've got pre-existing - albeit minor - medical conditions, travel insurance always ends up being a bit more expensive for me and I'm more limited in where I can buy it from but I don't want to take a potentially costly risk if there's some issue I've not thought of.)

You will have to pay all costs to get you or your remains home if you are taken seriously ill/injured etc abroad.

Insurance also covers non medical costs like cancellation, curtailment etc.

Its still the NHS as N.Ireland is part of the UK so you won't get any medical bills so, as Quintin says, its all the other costs of travel that you need to consider coveriing

NI is still part of the UK so there should be no problems regarding medical needs. However, I bought an annual multi trip policy, recommended by this site and have found it to be useless, as every part of my single claim following a minor skiing accident had an excess which left me by much out of pocket- be mindful of the excess conditions if you decide to purchase?

I started a post myself concerning cancellation cover, as according to my reading of the small print of my soon to expire annual policy, it appears that my September trip may not be covered? Just a thought!
