Is there a "best" bank account ?

At the moment I have a Barclays open plan current account.
My mortgage will finish in a month so I will have no need for this type of account.I am looking to move but do not know which is considered the best.I have maxed out my ISAs so am looking for an account that pays interest or is linked to an account with the same bank that does as I have some cash I need to find a home for.
Any help would be great but as I type this I can see there is probably not a straightforward answer.

There is no one best bank account because all customers have varying needs and requirements from an account. The editorial section of this site contains a feature on best current bank accounts.

Santander 123. Good interest on upto 20k.

Util cash back will pay the £2 fee.

First Direct has a reputation for excellent customer service and if you have one of their current accounts you can also open a regular saver which pays a good rate of interest.
Santander 123 has a good rate of interest on quite large balances and does cashback on some direct debits.
Lloyds Vantage has a good rate of interest.
Bank of Scotland and Halifax offer £5 per month reward even if your balance is tiny.
Nationwide FlexDirect pays a great interest rate on small balances.

ALL of these have terms and conditions that must be met to get the benefits.
