We had booked a holiday due to happen this week, consisting of an organised cycling trip from Prague to Dresden, including accommodation, and return flights to Prague which we booked separately with Jet2
Due to the flooding in central Europe, the cycling tour operator advised us that we would not be able to cycle as planned. They were very helpful and offered us a full refund or to rearrange for another time, we have rescheduled for September
We have no chance of a refund of the original flights, we had even already checked in. I had thought that my annual travel insurance was likely to repay the cost of these, but when I rang them I got a firm no, before I was half through the question. Not even anything about act of god, just that if another party cancelled, I'm not covered. I thought this was why I had travel insurance!
Aside from trying to find a company where they are at least more sympathetic, any advice on
1. getting a refund, which seems unlikely, or
2. more importantly, how to avoid this situation in the future when the costs involved might be a bit higher?
thanks

I would have thought the cancellation/curtailment/abandondment feature of the policy would have covered you.0

I don't think so. The flights were booked as a separate transaction with absolutely no connection with the cycling.
The flights will still go ahead so no reason for an insurance refund.
If it was bought as a package then that would be a different matter. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
