Hello,

I have just bought a samsung s4 but i'm too scared to take it out of the house as I havent sorted out insurance yet. all the ones i've looked at don't allow claims in the first month/2 weeks so i cant take the phone put for ages!

are there any insurers that offer instant cover? i bought the phone for cash off a colleague if that helps. I don't have home insurance or a bank account that includes it.

thanks!

Check you home contents insurance, if your not already covered you might be able to get your mobile devices covered.
  • you could try insurance2go.co.uk/mobile-phone-insurance
it says on their webpage - Immediate cover (our insurance starts on the day you sign up) maybe they will be able to help you .

i have looked at a few different ones and they all seem to suggest that you can not make a claim in the first 14 days of taking out the policy its probably a standard fraud prevention measure by the insurers.

realistically that doesn't stop fraud, as people will happily wait 14/30 days to claim on it if they break it and then sign up for insurance hoping to cover it post accident (on the quiet)

When/if you go for a policy you need to check that they will actually cover the phone as you bought 2nd hand from a friend. I know in mine it states my order/receipts will need to be presented upon claim.

Agreed - I had to prove ownership and the IMEI number by way of despatch note, or they would have accepted an invoice or bill showing the IMEI

So who will insure you without that then? My phone was bought, new, from an eBay seller who didn't bother to state the IMEI in any of the correspondence.

Seriously? How did you manage to survive until today. You could have been hit by a bus when you leave the house...

I would buy a case for it in case you really drop the phone. In the long run you're always better off without insurance unless you always break any gadget you buy...

And then, read the small print very carefully. Otherwise you'll end up paying every month and then they refuse to pay...

In my last job I cancelled the insurance for all of our ~30 Blackberries as we paid about the price of one new phone each month and had maybe 2 or 3 claims a year. You do the math...

For the same reason I never take an additional insurance when I rent a car. You save in the long run unless you're a really bad driver. And then you shouldn't drive at all ;)
