Bank charges to access old e-Statements

I bank with Smile, part of the Co-op group. I have just discovered that some money I paid into another account was never credited there.

To help prove when I paid it I need to see old statements. I would be happy to view online, but only the last 12 months are available. Instead Co-op want to charge me for paper "duplicates" at £10 per sheet (and I have 2-3 sheets per month).

I think this is unfair as I have never received paper statements.

Surely they are obliged to maintain electronic records and make them available to me without such exorbitant charges?

Is there anything I can do to access my own electronic records without paying so much money?

They provide you with download of statements. What did you do with your free downloadable ones?

They maintain records but it doesnt mean they cannot charge for arranging duplicates.

You can spend £10 and do a data subject access request. You will get statements but they will not be in a conventional form. It will usually mean amounts and codes but not specific text. It may or may not be enough for what you need. However, it is the only alternative

Smile charge £10 per copy statement (over 12 months old). That's irrespective of the number of sheets required to make up the statement.

Most financial institutions charge a similar amount.
