Santander 123 account - interest Q regards direct debits

In short, do they need to be ones that are paying, or do they just need to be 'there'?
I can set up a paypal & another direct debit that don't actually do anything if they just need to 'be there', or are they like the new Halifax system where they need to be paying?
Before it's mentioned - yes i've had a look, but can't seem to find anything that states for 100% either way.

Did you check the T&Cs? Nothing in there that says the DDs need paying at any frequency.
However, as has been discussed plenty of times, DDs that do not get used might get deleted after 13 months of no use.0 -

This is correct, but you can't make someone understand/know right from the off - they either do or they don't. This is when people ask questions & hopefully don't get moaned at for 'not looking' - i have looked & can't see anything that specifies. This is when i thought i'd come here to ask from those who've experienced it.But looking is one thing, but reading and understanding is another.0 -

They just need to be there, but you're missing one of the major features of this account i.e. cashback on direct debits for gas, electricity, water, communications, council tax etc. You won't get any cashback on an unused DD.0 -

Well, you didn't look at the T&Cs, did you, because if you had, you would have seen that it doesn't say the DDs need paying, with any frequency.
The Santander T&Cs for the 123 are very simple. If you feel you do not understand them, may be you should, in your own interest, not have a 123 because you could inadvertently be in breach of the T&Cs.Nine_Lives wrote: »but you can't make someone understand/know right from the off - they either do or they don't.
You can't ever say "yeah but someone on an Internet forum told me ..." - - you are 100% bound by the T&Cs as they stand.0 -
Ahhh you must be a sneaky one. When i was posting this thread i thought there was only me in the room. Where was you hiding when you saw me 'not read' the T&Cs? Was you in the wardrobe? Behind the TV?Well, you didn't look at the T&Cs, did you,
Ah no, you wasn't, because you didn't see at all - so no need for silly statements. I'm telling you i read them, that's end of discussion. I don't need someone with no clue on what i did or didn't do to try & tell me!
No, it doesn't say they need paying, that's my point - it doesn't specify whether they do or do not need paying. I was checking to see before i made a mistake (my apologies for thinking i could get help without some sort of lecture. I wasn't aware it was so bad to ask for help or confirmation these days).
You seem to take a particular exception to this, and i'm not just referring to this thread. My advice to you then would be if you don't like it to follow these quick & easy steps:
* left click my username
* right at the bottom it says "Add Nine_Lives to your ignore list"
* click it & watch your troubles disappear.:T0 -
I am trying to help you.

With what part? Your quips? Or the part where you tell me that i didn't do something that i actually did do perhaps?I am trying to help you.
You appear to have some sort of unknown issue with me asking questions. I don't mind this at all. What i don't understand is if you don't like me asking questions, why not just ignore them then, rather than respond?0 -

I have now.
Many people on here have helped you, but you unfortunately seem to, recently attack these same people.
You have asked for peoples experiences with their accounts, while you seem to have many different examples with accounts of yours, your wife, your mother, your sister, your brother, your ca....
