Buying a stolen car?

Hi there, my friend who is certainty shady, cocky, arrogant and stupid
is involved into some shady dealings and bought a car with a stolen credit card.

Now the thing is, he bought it from a used garage, the key facts are that he bought the car, by paying for it over the phone with the stolen credit card,

I don't condone what's he's done and it's not right what he's done but what can the company that sold their car to him do? As I understand it, the company are basically screwed because they accepted a payment over the phone which isn't doesn't cover them in any event of fraud reported.

If they reported it to the police, what would they do? Would they log it on their system as stolen, would they say, there's nothing they can do as it's a 'civil matter'?

many thanks

Wont they take a copy of his driving license and insurance certificate? When the chargeback occurs they'll just simply call the police on him?

Once informed of the stolen card the credit card payment will be recalled by the cc company as no chip and pin was carried out.

The garage will then look to the person who they sold the car to for the money. It's a common scam and the garages that get hit tend to be very annoyed so will report to police and pursue the money

    It's not a civil matter!

Though unless the police catch him (which they will if you report him anonymously) the garage won't be able to get their money off him.

Just hope its a garage that just report it to the police rather than get his mates to sort it instead.

I don't know if they took his counterpart & driver's licence, if they did, I guess they did a fake one.

I'm sure the righful cc owner will do a chargeback, my question is once that happens and they money get's returned. Garage phone the police, what will the police do?

    Try and catch him.

It will be easy if you give them the heads up.

Look at any cctv and any ID documents provided to garage which I assume will be moody as they usually fax a fake licence or utility bill and get someone else to collect the car.

The police may well speak to whoever eventually buys the car for clues as to the offender

Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

OP - you need to choose your 'friends' with more care. Stay away from his car as well - you don't want to be in the passenger seat when he gets pulled by the police for driving a stolen vehicle.
