Confirm this (dial) meter reading?

Is the above 09274?

Or 19274?

Thinking "09" as next dial has not reached 0 therefore previous dial should read the number before the pointer?

    09274

If it were 19274, you would expect the pointer on the first dial to be pointing almost to the 2

Thanks. That's what I hoped you'd say. It's my Mothers meter and it's been a long time since I saw one like it!

She's previously given readings of 19xxx and paid the bills, so by my reckoning when she sorts this mess out she should be in for a decent refund?

Depends what the original reading was.

I'm afraid that with a customer given reading of 19274 and not the correct one of 09274, your Mum's probably had bill that overcharges by 10,000 Kwh -At say 12p per Kwh this would be an overpayment of £1,200 ( + VAT) !

These multi-dial meters cause no end of problems, even to employed meter readers, and are well past their service life.

If she has had a huge bill then part of the responsibility falls on the supplier, as the reading is so far off her usual consumption pattern that they should have quiried it and sent in a meter reader

WRITE a letter headed Complaint, enclosing a photo of the meter demanding that she be re-billed, and that any excess money she has paid be returned.
Also request a date when the supplier is going to organise the meter to be changed.
For you to act on Mum's behalf with the supplier, Mum must write a letter to the supplier authorising you to do so - This letter should be enclosed with yours of Complaint

    09274..................
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

That's great advice. I have confirmed that she DID pay a catch up bill in excess of £1500 and that she has repeatedly asked the supplier to send a meter reader - they have failed to do so. The meter is not locked away and is accessible 24/7 by the supplier. They haven't read it in years apparently - and I think it is well past being due for replacement anyway.
