Hi

I am thinking of buying a CAT D car, will it affect the insurance quote that I get?

Thanks

I have had several Cat D cars over the years and have never had a problem. Indeed a colleague managed to write off his Cat D Astra and ended up getting more for it through insurance than he paid for it! Be not afraid if it is a long term purchase and not something you are going to change after 3 months!

Just be aware that not all insurance company's insure previous insurance write off's. It has never put me off buying salvage just be aware when insuring ask the insurance company if they will insure before buying.

I noticed Swiftcover will not insure a Cat D write off when reading their T's&C's the other day.

Ring your insurance company and ask.

They might not have asked but have you checked that they cover Cat D cars? Swiftcover don't but, IIRC, you have to read the small print to realise this.

As the law changed in April with insurance, companies can't hide things they rely on in the small print, even for renewals. So unless they ask a specific question on it's history, you don't have to volunteer additional information.
