E-Cigs

I always assumed airlines didn't allow them more because of the potential confusion
a) someone would see someone smoking an ecig think 'hey I CAN smoke' and light up a real cigarette.
b) other passengers would be freaked out that someone was 'smoking' and the crew would have to deal with that.
I would never think of sitting in an airline seat with an ecig on the go even if they were allowed...it would be nice if I could pop to the loo for a few puffs though...but I don't out of fear of getting caught somehow.
I'm lucky in that usually on long flights I'm OK - I know I can't smoke so the cravings aren't too bad but by golly when we're landing they kick in and long immigration queues or waits for baggage are not my friends. Agree that Niquitin minis are a good option if cravings are a problem...even if they do taste nasty (i don't care which flavour, they are all gross) and make your tongue feel weird.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
The guy I sat next to at work had a go at smoking one in the office. The steam did smell (no where near on the same scale as an actual cigarette. He couldn't smell it, but several others could, so he continued his long walk down to the outside every time he 'lit' up.Tim0

Off-topic I know, but Stagecoach now have notices saying you can't use these on their buses.
I wonder why

I would not want to be sitting next someone smoking these so am pleased thay are not allowed. They are possibly better to smoke than tobacco for the smoker but the effects of the chemicals in e-cigarettes is not well known and they are unlikely to be risk free.
Several countries, France and Italy for example, are considering limiting their use in the same way as other cigarettes.
I take it you don't eat cake or many sweets then?
Becuse most of the components in e-cig fluid are very common in baking/confectionary.
And so far, on one US "study" from a highly conflicting-interest source has found anything to the contrary - all Assays of fluid sold in the UK so far have found nothing to worry about.
Several airlines are aqlso quite happy for you to use the "approved" e-cigs they sell on board flights. Most of which are from the same firm that supplies Tesco but at a considerable mark-up!
But don't let facts get in the way of your petty little prejudice, no.0 -
Hi
my husband asked on a BA flight and was told no because others might think he is really smoking. He just had a "sleep" under the blanket while I kept watch. It was one of the non vapour ones that didn't let out a lot of steam. The Cabbage

I think there's only Ryanair that allow them to be used onboard0

They sell a cigarette substitute but not e-cigs
I believe it's just some nicotine soaked substance that looks a bit like a cigarette, no steam or lights though0 -
I think I'll keep my prejudice as I don't want to be exposed to extra chemicals in the air. Clearly the fumes are more than steam or there would be no odour.I take it you don't eat cake or many sweets then?

It seems that they contain things like formaldehyde and other chemicals even if at lower levels than tobacco.
I'd prefer to stick to cake where I take the risks and not have extra bad things imposed on me by other people.0 -
I have to say that good research on this is hard to come by, anti-vaping bods used a press release about an unpublished research to show vaping is bad for you....
Sound pro-vaping research is either non-existent (or I've not found any that wasn't flimsy), or more likely unpublished because the results don't fit in with the researcher's agenda. With the money involved I don't believe for one second that nobody has invested in any research... my guess would be that it shows it's not harmless, but is probably safer than nicotine patches and other Nic replacement devices, so they don't want to publicise that...
At the end of they day why would pharma companies want to show that devices designed and manufactured by the Chinese are safer than their own devices?
I don't think anyone can say it's totally safe, because there isn't enough data, but I'd happily recommend vaping to heavy smokers trying to quit.0
