Please Help. What can I claim ?

Hi,

I am a 51 year old white english male, unfortunately hetrosexual, with no disabilities. I have a mortgage and small amount of savings over £16k.

I have no dependent children other then two 20 year olds at University who I pay out rent for, one is a student nurse with a £4000 per year bursary and is expected to live on that.

I have worked every day since I was 15 and now feel after 36 years of work, I want to spend my time in the garden, going to the pub and getting !!!!ed, with no worries about getting up 6 days a week to go to work.

What benefits can I claim ? A genuine request for info.

I have paid into the system for 36 years and Never drawn any benefit of any description? I feel isolated and marginalised. Am I being discriminated against or can I claim anything in order to fulfil my dreams of sitting at the Red Lion from morning till night like many other fine fellows ?

I'm not sure you can claim anything at all as you have no dependents or disabilities, unless you can retire early on an Occupationall or Personal pension?

I don't think you woyuld be eligible for any State Benefits.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

You can't claim a sausage but you can thank your lucky stars you don't need to.

Unless you'd prefer to have a disabled dependant to look after 24/7 and claim the equivalent of around 71pence an hour????

And why is my request not genuine, surely you are not discriminating against me are you ? I want to know if I can leave work and what benefits if any I can claim ? seems reasonable.

You can't claim any benefits because you are not a Jobseeker.

The fact that you are a 51 year old white english male, hetrosexual, with no disabilities makes no difference whatsoever.

You could write to Gordon Brown and ask him to set up a benefit specifically aimed at those who want to " spend my time in the garden, going to the pub and getting !!!!ed, with no worries about getting up 6 days a week to go to work."

I doubt whether you would get any luck. I think John Prescott had the last benefit matching what you want and he managed to get away with it for 10 years !!!! I don't think Mr Brown would want to waste so much of tax payers money anymore !

If you were to lose a limb, you might get DLA and IB, which would mean you would have an income to spend in the pub. Alternatively a significant medical condition might get you IB only, or a more serious one, which affects your ability to perform day-to-day tasks or get around might get you some DLA.
You would probably not be able to play any form of sport though. Not even golf.

If you gave up your job, you would not be eligible for JSA.

It might be best if you did give up your job though, as I'm sure there's someone out there that wants it more than you appear to.

It's not a savings account where you get back what you have paid in. "Paying into the system" provides funds to help those who are genuinely sick, disabled, have been made redundant etc.

Have you got a private or company pension that you could take early retirement with?
Here I go again on my own....

You sound so bitter. Not all people on benefits are scroungers. I work, pay taxes and NI but hope never to have to make a genuine claim for DLA or Income Support. Perhaps if you had to make a genuine claim you'd appreciate being able to work.
