Npower OVER estimated bill

Hi, I am a customer with npower and have currently received an estimated bill for nearly 900 pound from December to March. I am a single parent with 2 children in a small 2 bed house and I know I haven't used that much, the charge is mostly gas. I have extra electric heaters over my house and use an electric oven. I work part time and spend an average of 9 hours away from home every day and I hardly ever have the gas on (I'm quite a big girl and don't feel the cold). I can't afford to pay a bill like that, especially when I know I haven't used that much and I have asked N power to send someone out to check the meter and they won't. They have said as its an estimate I should send a meter reading but when I do, it just adds more money to the bill and they say its right. Can anyone help me with getting any resolve?? N power don't seem to be much help.

Was your previous bill estimated? It is unlikely the £900 is from December - it is probable that the bill then was underestimated and this £900 is a catch-up for six months (or longer). How much were the earlier quarters' bills? When was the last Actual (A) reading?

How much have you used since March? Does that make the readings and the useage on the bill sensible?

Does the meter type correspond with your bill? That is, do you have an imperial or a metric gas meter?

From your post I'm assuming that of the Estimated £900 bill, £110 is for your Elec leaving £790 for gas

Rough and ready figures allowing for the Service Charge and VAT, gives a billed Gas consumption figure for around 18,000Kwh, which is a HUGE consumption in appx.89 days for the house you describe.

Look at your meter and check it's reading against that shown as the End Reading on the Estimated Bill - the chances are that your meter has still has not reached the figure you are being charged for.

If this is the case,Email n'power heading it Complaint, giving your meters present reading and asking that they either produce a new bill based on your current reading and date, or arrange for the meter to be read and issue a new bill based on that

It's funny how you blame the energy company yet you're refusing to send meter reads in to show your correct usage. They're required by the regulator to estimate bills if customers don't provide an up to date read. It only takes a few minutes to read your meter and submit the results.

    Hi

Im in a similar situation! Exactly a year ago I moved from a one bed house to a two bed house. I work full time and only have the heating n in the winter. In addition to that the only gas I use is the hob on my cooker! I live alone and am not a waster - so why are my energy bills now three times higher than they have been for the last 20 years??!! I have read the meters and like you the readings are a few higher than the estimates so its not as though NPower will tel me they owe me! My question is, how is it possible to be using so much all of a sudden??!!

If your pattern of useage is similar to your previous property then there is a chance your new contract was set up with the wrong type of meter. Do you have a metric gas meter? On your bill does each meter unit correspond to about 11 or 32 kWh?

Energy has gone up a stupid amount over the last 10 years (over 100%?)... if you're paying the same amount as you were paying 20 years ago, then it is likely that you will have a smallish shortfall of several thousand pounds.

Hi Nada666. I have no idea and have never heard that there are different meters. I will check this out later - thanks!
