http://www.rightmove.co.uk/news/articles/property-news/never-mind-the-critics-help-to-buy-hits-home-with-publicSeven in ten (72%) respondents backed the Help to Buy scheme. Over half (58%) believe it will ‘help more people to buy, aiding housing market and economic recovery’ and one in seven (14%) said that they did not ‘care about politics, as long as it helps me buy or sell’.
By contrast, one in four (23%) expressed concern that Government incentives to boost activity can lead to ‘booms and busts’ and a minority believed that ‘the housing market was recovering on its own’ (5%)
Miles Shipside, Rightmove director and housing market analyst comments: “After several years on the ropes, potential buyers seem keen to get moving again and have had their interest awakened by Help to Buy. What our research shows is that regardless of recent politicking, Help to Buy has certainly struck a chord with the very people it’s designed to assist.”

I seem to remember that 110% mortgages, and self-certification, were overwhelmingly popular with voters and lenders alike.

Popular, and indeed relatively harmless, as it wasn't UK mortgage lending standards that brought down the UK banks.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

I believe the opposite.

You can believe what you like.
The facts however disagree with you.

Flippin' eck.
At some point when I have a couple of hours to spare I might try to compile a list of some of the most prominent anti-HTB commentators, together with the key points that they make. I apologise in advance for the lack of estate agents on said list.FACT.0 -

Doesn't change the fact that....What our research shows is that regardless of recent politicking, Help to Buy has certainly struck a chord with the very people it’s designed to assist.”“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Everyone has a vested interest.
Especially those who point out others, in order to discredit perfectly valid research.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Your link contains hardly a single 'fact' - just lots of questions...

Here's a fact for you.
-UK-owned banks have lost 15 times more on foreign mortgages, since the crisis started, than on mortgages in the UK.
And a summary of why your position is flawed...."but really it's all our fault, for running up so much debt. We all had a binge, and now we have to pay."
It's an excellent morality tale, which chimes well with the British tendency towards self-flagellation.
There's just one problem. It's not really true.
And why would that be?The debt that's caused the problems hasn't been the debt of households.
It really has been down to silly bets by Britain's banks (and other parts of the financial system), which were NOT bets on UK residential property.
Most of them weren't even in the UK.
As has often been pointed out on here, anyone that thinks UK mortgage lending, UK household debt, or UK individual borrowing caused the financial crisis (or even had anything to do with it) is away with the fairies.
Even Northern Rock's so called "bad bank", containing the worst of the worst of those 100% plus mortgages, has made over a billion pounds in profit in the last 2 years alone.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”
