estimated gas bill

I have received a estimated bill of over £700 which the gas supplier states is for 470 units.
I see that from Feb-Jun 2012 I used 11344.46 kWh but from Feb-Jun 2013 I used 14773.42 kWh (estimated).
I have asked for a reading to be taken as the meter is outside and opened by a key which the meter reader has.
I should be very grateful for comments on the figures supplied by the company and any advice about how to proceed.

Get a meter box key, read the meter yourself, and give it to the company.
It was a cold winter so you would probably have use 20 % more gas this year than last.
PS Most Energy suppliers will supply you with a meter box key FOC,

Take a meter reading yourself. Keys can be bought for like a quid on various popular shopping websites.0

Concur with other posters, it's vital that you obtain a key to submit your own meter readings so that you get accurate bills
Also why are you quoteing just the same 5 month period in two conscecutive years ? What is important is your Kwh consumption over a full year
You don't give any information about the size or type of house and it's occupants, but those figures you have quoted suggest a Yearly consumption of over 30,000 kwh
From the Meter Units used and quantity of Kwh charged, your supplier is working on the basis that you have an Imperial type gas meter - when you do get that key have a look at it to check that it is marked ft3
If the meter is marked m3 you do in fact have a Metric meter and are being seriously overcharged, so get on to your supplier immediately0
