We will go back to the garage on Tuesday and see what the best deal is. Our Clio is 1.2 16v so I wonder would the 0.9 litre engine might be a little under powered?

    Isn't it turbocharged?

I saw a Sandero on the M1 a few weeks ago and it did not look out of place. I went to a Renault garage to have a look at them, but preferred the look of the Duster, which is obviously more expensive.

The 0.9 is a more powerful and efficient engine. The review I saw said that it suited the Sandero better than the Clio, as the latter was a heavier car.

Before actually buying a Sandero, I would certainly check the best price you can get on one WITH the options you need (not just the cheapo headline price) against the price of superminis (Clio, Fiesta etc) which may include this stuff as standard. I certainly would NOT spend £9,000 on a Sandero against £9,000 on a Clio with the same spec. Nowhere near as good a car.

It's interesting that the "buy a second-hand Focus" brigade, who always come out to play when it's some Korean box being discussed, are strangely quiet when the subject is a cheap Renault.

Other than the base models, these things are not really all that cheap. I'll be waiting until you can pick one up at 3 years old for £1500 before parting with my hard-earned... :)
