    if the interest part of the mortgage was £600 and repayment £300 per month then you would have paid £36,000 capital off the mortgage. That's worse than the first example of renting and saving.

    But if the figures were reversed you would have paid off £72K.

    However it's your choice what you do in this situation, I only put forward a hypothetical scenario for your consideration. On reflection there probably is no right or wrong answer, just what suits you at this particular point in your life.
