I am now packing for a family of five going on easyjet tomorrow. Baggage allowance is 20kg per person, but I obviously dont want to pack 5 suitcases, so can I share luggage allowance and put 25kg into each three suitcases. Would really love an answer as I have had to stop packing till I can sort out problem...easyjet phone line is £1 per min...so gave up waiting

You cannot share your luggage allowance, it is per bag.0

Does that mean I have to pack 5 smaller suitcases and cant take 3 larger....seems a bit ridiculous to me?0

Looks like you will need all 5 cases.Even if you take just 3 large ones you can only have 20kg per bag."Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0

Each passenger is usually permitted
* one standard piece of hand baggage to maximum dimensions of 55x40x20cm, and
* a free allowance of standard checked-in hold baggage to a maximum weight of 20kgs
A fee per kilo for excess weight over these allowances is charged prior to departure.
That reads to me that if your bag weighs more than 20kg you pay excess baggage charges REGARDLESS of he number of passengers0 -
Coming back from Malaga a couple of months ago there was an altercation where a disgruntled passenger who'd had to pay excess baggage came up to harrass our check-in assistant when he saws that our luggage was in excess of 20kg per bag. We had two suitcases and they weighed about 22kg each.
She told him in no uncertain terms "FOUR PEOPLE!". Or at least the Spanish equivalent of that
I've frequently travelled with Easyjet with individual cases over 20kgs and no one's batted an eyelid. We were always well under the total of 20kgs x number of people in the party.
To me the advice reads that this is actually the rule. It says free allowance for suitcases, whereas hand baggage is specified as one piece per passenger.0 -
A couple of friends of mine tried travelling with one case...no way unless they wanted to pay excess baggage! athey ended up racing to a friends house near the airport to borrow another case.0
