Our 'plug ins' where totally useless - sorry :( And sorry again to all those of a nervous disposition we use poison ( industrial strength and placed in attic :rotfl:) traps ( also in attic and not humane) and best of all our 2 cats - who dont go in the attic but mount a patrol outside most nights and when they have eaten their full, they bring us their surplus every morning:) Mind you we live in an old house in the country so we have come to accept it goes with the territory!

  • Thanks EchoDelta and Igamogam!!

I think next step is the traps alongside the sensors and also getting the expanding foam with wire-wool out for all the nooks and crannies in the kitchen to trap some inside to kill and trap the rest outside!! Sorry people!!!

We've had them too long now to feel sorry for them anymore! And the cat is still a real possibility! Just waiting on landlord's response - we've been really open about it to stay on the good side!!!

Fingers crossed! Funny thing is when we lived on a farm - we never had any in the house, even though they were all around the garden and the back door was open all the time!!!! Its those crazy urban mice you have to watch out for!! :)

  • Just got my first full and final response back!!! :j

With 290 quid off the principle sum. :rotfl: This makes it still quite a lot! It is a good start though - so I think I might write them another letter and send it off next week stating that I am unable to provide this sum but could offer - and put in a slightly higher offer. Stating financial circumstances etc. which are all 100% true - my circumstance ARE absolutely dire!!! :(

If they can come down by just another 100 or so quid that would be enough for me to be able to pay it off in one go!!!

They have given me their internet banking details so when we do come to an agreement I think I'll pay that way so there is no dodgy credit/debit card dealing going on!

    Wish me luck!!!!!
So excited - this is the start!!! Might get one of the other letters off this week as well to start the ball rolling as this thing takes time. :j

PS - aiming for a SFD with the OH today - he wants to do some furniture re-arranging in the living room so we'll entertain ourselves that way!! :rotfl:

    Hey Igamogam!!!

As far as credit scores go - my rating is so bad I don't even have one!!!!! So anything I do - I know it won't be worth anything for 6 years so I'm taking the hit!!!

I also have so many settled PDL accounts on my credit file no one would touch me with a bargepole for even a hire-purchase (not that I'd do one after my tv fiasco!!!) or a tenancy check.

As far as I'm concerned the ones I'm offering f&fs on are the defaulted files that some people might ignore for 6 years and then try never to pay them back as statute barred - I'm actually actively contacting them, i'm tackling them and trying to pay them off!! They never offer me that much off - but what they do remove is usually the extortionate interest charges so I do pay back what I owe in the end!!!

I'm just trying to sort it all out and get it all in check!!

As far as I'm concerned - other people manage to do it, and I've had such a hard few years of it, why shouldn't I take advantage of legislation and also try and knock these toxic debts down by a few hundred here and there!!!

But that's my arguments! Please don't take them as gospel!!

  • I've also remembered - something I'm doing to keep myself motivated during those days when there is no money movement going on paying things little bits here and there is I have now written a number on my blackboard -

    360

This is the number of days I am waiting for and after which I hope to be more or less 99% debt free (maybe a final payment here or there but 1000 pounds or less!!)

So I am every now and again going to mark down the days (like a convict :rotfl:) to freedom and I'm hoping this will keep me going!!!!! :)

Don't speak so soon - I just got accepted by a letting agent and I'm on a DMP! It was a total surprise like but I was upfront about my debt and how I was paying it so maybe this was why.

I think the number thing sounds like a great idea, it'll disappear in no time!

Hi C-R and great news on your first F&F - I have my fingers crossed they will come down that extra £100 for you. X. I am sure it would be good to be totally rid of one debt!

We had mice in a house in the Netherlands and put down traps which were very effective but we did find it was worth putting them out every few months. Occasionally we would catch the odd one after we dealt with the original problem. It think the traps we used were called 'Easycat' and I'm pretty sure they killed the mice very quickly. Now, my friend had rats. Eek. Put down a trap. Checked the next day. Trap gone and a trail of blood. 3 days later, the bloodied trap reappeared in the same spot, minus any dead rat. Seriously. I'd have moved house at that point!
