Help Needed For Painting A Room!

Hello, can anyone help please?
My kids have just swapped rooms and my daughter wants a pink room!

The wood is currently a really dark green gloss and I was wondering what the best way of removing this was. Do I remove it with paint stripper or try to sand most of it off and paint over it?
The walls are a lighter green so I am thinking of just painting over this. Do I give it a white base coat first or just put the pink paint on and keep going until the green no longer shows through?
I really have no clue so any advice would be great!:o

If the current paint is sound (ie. not flaking) you could give it a bit of a sanding (then clean it) and just apply a coat or 2 of your desired colour paint. If you really can't be bothered to sand it, then try something like Dulux Trade Super Grip Primer, or Zinnser Bulls Eye 1-2-3, followed by an undercoat and finish (ie. gloss), but please read instructions on the tins before using any paint!!
With the walls, if it's light green then just go over it with a coat or 2 of your desired colour. If it's a strong colour you will most definately need 2 coats!
You can use a coat of white first if you wish, but that won't eliminate the need for 2 coats if it's a strong colour.

Probably cheaper and quicker to use a white gloss on green gloss and white emulsion on the walls, then desired pink paint (maybe one coat stuff) on walls and whats ever got gloss on

My daughters bedroom is bright pink it lights up at night, got the pink emulsion from wilkos

White paint is much cheaper than coloured paint

If the gloss is still really glossy, it will need either sanding or an undercoat at least.

You dont say what colour woodwork you want to go with the pink walls.

if your going want pink walls then its advisable to go over the green with a coat of white emulsion first, as sometimes if you paint a red or pink over dark walls the true colour dont show, so I would give the walls at least one coat of white, if your going for a light pink then do two coats of white, then two of pink.

If your were going over the green skirting to go to white, then its best to give them a good rub down, as you cant gloss on top of existing gloss without givng it a key to adhere to.
The give them at least two undercoats, maybe three, depending on how well the U/C covers over the green, then do your top coat.

  • I wouldn't try that one coat stuff. we did and you have to apply very thick.when you come to paint next to a bit that may be drying it then "drags" and doesn't give a good finish.
    good luck.
