Nothing but praise for Vanquis

in Credit cards
After seeing many horror stories about Vanquis I was always very worried about getting involved with them. However, 12 months ago they were the only company willing to take a chance on me (poor life choices etc, you know the drill). In the past 12 months I've paid the balance of the account in full every month, interestingly though I never had an increase. In my eagerness to pay the account I even over paid last month.
Last month I successfully got a Platinum Barclaycard with the whole 27m Bt and 6m on purchases shebang.
It was always my intention to close the account once I moved on to better things so this morning I called Vanquis expecting the worst time ever after reading all the threads on this forum.
I spoke to an english speaking lady who was more than happy to help with my request. She acknowledged my requirements to have the account closed as the users request and even set up a BACS transfer to put the over payment back into my bank account.
Im not sure how so many people get it wrong with this company, but if you're wanting to rebuild a credit history don't write them off right away. Take a chance on them if they will take one on you.
P.s I'm in no way associated with Vanquis, just a very happy customer.

As you say, Vanquis take on customers that no one else will. Many of them tend to be people who have messed up in the past and will do so again.
Vanquis understands its customers very well and come down hard on late payers.
As you've discovered, be nice to them and they'll be nice to you.
The "horror stories" tend to come from those who break the rules. :rotfl:0 -
I am the same, no credit history, got a vanquis card now, first statement has arrived
just a bit paranoid that they wont take the direct debit in full on the 28th because of all the horror stories about them.
I will see and report back0 -

Until you receive a statement with the words to the effect that payment will be taken by direct debit on or around, then it is best IMO to make the minimum payment at least by other means. This applies to any credit card, not just Vanquis.
For instance if your statement is on the 1st and you set up the DD on the 8th and the amount is due on the 20th. It is highly unlikely that the DD will be taken as it was set up after the statement was issued.0 -
i called them as i didnt trust them and they said it is all set up for the 28th june and it has been showing on my online banking since before the statement date so fingers crossed0

Make the minimum payment anyway by other means anyway, just to ensure your credit file doesn't take a hit if the worst happens.0

Yes they do.
It doesn't appear on their downloaded PDF (online) statements.
And, according to Vanquis themselves:What will appear on the paper statement that would not appear on the online statement?
Your online statement is the same as your paper statement, however you will not receive any messages via your online statement, e.g. credit limit decrease messages, instead you will receive these messages via email.
So, Vanquis' statement that "Your online statement is the same as your paper statement" is incorrect?0 -
Must be. I only get paper statements (never signed up for eVanquis) and even before the redesign they always say if there's a DD and when it will be taken (normally on the due date).Oh, you wee bazza!0
