This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Good morning everyone

Have been up since 4:30, I just could not sleep so stopped tossing and turning and got out of bed.
Looks like the beginning to another lovely day so overnight washing is already out on the line and another load is in the machine.
Have a long list of to dos for this weekend as all cleaning and tidying has come to a halt with hours worked this week. Have cleaned the kitchen already and the floor is drying now. Can't do anything noisy as DH is still fast asleep so will go and tidy around downstairs and leave hoovering etc until later.
Want to try and catch up on some batch cooking this weekend as it's come to a halt but also I don't feel like eating the stews and casseroles we often make. Plus lots doesn't fit with the low carb diet. So have got some mince packs out of the freezer and am going to make various flavoured burgers and meatballs and kebabs, that we can have with salads.
Well wishes to all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day

Good Morning x
Diabolical day yesterday - trouble accessing blood and then I had a reaction so it had to be stopped. Back on Monday. I could have gone in over the weekend but chose to wait given the mortality statistics go up over the weekend:eek::eek::eek:
Going to try and find a semblance of OS normality this weekend.
Hope ladyshopper is recovering well and that Julie and Halight are continuing their recovery xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Good Morning all,I too woke early and am up and about.I'm one of those people that once my eyes are open I am up.I suppose its because for years I had become accustomed to getting up early. I got up at 5.00 for well over 22 years when I was working, and have always been an early riser,no matter what time I got to bed.I think I must have an in-built clock that goes off.Its probably worse in the summer, as unless its dark I just can't go back to sleep.Still its handy, as I can get lots done first thing. I have already got a wash in the machine and it will be on the line by 7.00
Well my friend phoned last night and her DD has had her scan for the twins and she is having one of each which is lovely. She's 22 weeks now and bless her so excited as she is having them by IVF and can't wait for her babies to arrive.I am so pleased for her as I think she will make a smashing Mum.My friend is over the moon as well as she never thought her DD would ever have children.I am meeting my pal at Bluewater today and we are going to have some lunch and then off to the cinema to see the Liberace biopic. Then we will have a quick nip into M&S to buy our favourite choc eclairs (M&S do the best ever
:))then back to her house in Dartford for dinner tonight. Her OH is still stuck in the U.S. with work but he is hoping to be home by Tuesday.
My eldest is off to Exmouth for a couple of days with her OH as he bought a new car last week and wants to give it a good run(that's his excuse
:))It will do DD good as well and hopefully they will get some nice weather.
its a bit cloudy at the moment but not cold and the forecast is good for later
Hope you all have a good day and Halight feels even better today
Take care everyone
Cheers JackieO xxx0 -
Morning all:j:j
Sunny here, A little chilly, But looks like we are In for another sunny and warm day:j:j
We need to make the most of it here as they said on the local weather forcast last night that it will be changing on Monday day, Rain is due in and its got to go cooler.
A good nights sleep here for me, I only woke up once and then I was able to drop straight back off, I got up a 5:45am. All tablets taken and I'm on my first coffee of the day,
I feel stronger again this morning, But nowhere near normal.
Also I feel less presser at the front of my head when I bend forward, So things are getting better and healing.
I put another photo up on Facebook yesterday of my head, This time without the plasters on so you can see the cut and the staples,
Its a nice neat cut that followers my hair line, The cut looks and seems to be healing nicely, No bleeding or weeping from it. I'm booked In to see the nurse at the GP's On Monday morning to have the staple out,
The twins and my wife are off over to her sisters this morning to have there hair cut.
Then later, We are off to a fate thing, I looking forward to getting out and about at the fate, I have always been active, Even when I'm having a lazy slob being a hermit day, I always do a little something like go for a walk, Or do a small Job In the Garden. But Iv not even been able to feed the chickens the last few days. And a part from walking to my Mums and Dad's with my wife the other day Iv been stuck at home. My knees and back are starting to seize up!
So having a walk about for an hour or so I feel will do me good. Need to get moving!
Dinner tonight will be at the local harvester, We are off out with my Mum and Dad, Brother and his partner. We never went anywhere In March for my brothers birthday, Or In May for my Dads Birthday, So we are off tonight. S a bit of a full day for me today. But don't worry I shall be taking it steady,
Dinner last night was minted Lamb Burgers, Chips and salad. Nice quick.easy and cheap. I'm not sure were the burgers came from. Something to do with my wife's sister. But they were very tasty, They were Gluten free ones. As my wife can not have gluten.
We need to pop somewhere on the way back from the fate, As we need a joint or a chicken for tomorrow. No other shopping is needed.
Well I hope that the Suns shines for you were you are today, And that you enjoy your Saturday,
Have a good one everyone :j:j:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j0 -
Morning everyone
Molly - sorry to hear that yesterday was so bad, hoping Monday works out right for you
JackieO - what a nice day you have planned :]
My plans today are to catch up on all the house stuff I've missed this week, especially after having a migraine last night and going to bed at 8.30 - meant I done squat all last night :[
DH is working all day and kids are away to their Dads so I shall have some time to do all I want to do - getting off the computer is the 1st issue hehe
Tenyearstogo - well done on the job front, may congratulations
Hugs, sticks, spoons and a cuppa with fruit cake to all who want them

1st fair on 13/4/14 :j0 -
HesterHalight, thank you for thinking of me, I'm not in the union, our rep is useless & it was
You probley alread know about this, But these people can give you advice even if you are not In a union.
Link http://www.acas.org.uk/index.aspx?articleid=1461
I agree that sometime's with unions its hit and miss noways. If you get a good Rep, Then your really set up to fight your corner and the money that you pay out for membership is worth every penny,
On the other hand if your Rep is useless then as you said the money is much better off in your pocket,
The trouble is I hear more and more story's about useless reps than good one's !
TenyearstogoI got the job! Thank you for all the support you lovely bunch of random strangers!
Well done :T:T:j:j
MeanmarieHalight....continue to be amazed by your speed of recovery....do you think that you might be up to a bit of baking??
My wife's back at work on Monday,
I might have a go at making a bread pudding, They are easy to make and the longest part of it Is the cooking of it In the oven. 10 mins to mix it all up and then an hour nap while its cooking!:T:T So I may have a go at doing one at some point next week. Iv made that many of them I sure I could do them in my sleep now!:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j0 -
Butterflybrainhalight It is amazing how quickly things have changed in the NHS in the last few years, but they have told me I will be in for a minimum of two weeks when I have my knee replacement, daft isn't it ?
When My Mum had her Hip Done, two years ago. She was in for about 4 days,
They do believe In getting you mobile as soon they they can nowadays's. Which I do think is a good thing. Joints do stiffen up and the older you are the harder it is to get going again If you have been In bed for w awhile resting.
They also like to get you home as fast as they can,
This is also a good thing,
Your body heals when its asleep and when its at rest, Both are In short supply while your In hospital.
I do believe that you are a lot better off at home, Even if it means having a nurse coming in one or two time's a day just to check up on you, Or give you med's
Hospitals are great and do a great Job, But I also believe that there is a place for being treated at home.
On a personal note about the NHS,
I feel quite sad for it and its workers at the moment,
I believe that the NHS that we see in 10 years time will look and feel like nothing we have now or have had In the past,
I don't believe that this will be for the better of of Us or the people that work In the NHS:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j0 -

Morning all
I'm late up for me this morning, but I didn't get to bed til 1 as I was babysitting.
Halight, take it easy & thanks for the ACAS info, I mentioned them during my meeting and also made obvious notes as well, I went in all guns blazing, for although I was smiley, friendly & calm I explained that I felt 'picked on' when I got into trouble for leaving boxes in reception (UPS collections that don't turn up) & yet other departments leave their stuff their without any problems. I also asked directly exactly what the Head was unhappy with, as I've been told this. Unfortunately there were no specific reasons, so I said 'Well it is very difficult to made him happy if he can't specify why he's unhappy'.
Anyway the sun is shining, this weekend I'm making bread & lemon drizzle cake, I shall watch the GP with hubby, do some housework & crochet, have lots of Hestering & forget work for 2 days.
Molly, sorry to hear about your problems. LW I hope the visit from Bailey & Cassie is still going well. Hugs to Julie, Judi, Hilly, PP and anyone I've missed.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning everyone

Looks like the sun is trying to shine again today :j
Not sure what's happening today. Although we have technically made an offer on a House because the vendor is dithering we want to take a second look at one of the houses we saw whilst we were away. If we can go this aft we shall be heading down there which means there will be minimal OS. If we don't go I shall crack on with cake baking, some ironing and general tidy round.
Right had better go jump in the shower and start the day
Hugs and spoons all round x
Molly sorry yesterday didn't go as planned, positive vibes that Monday goes better xx
Hester hugs for you x
Halight you seem to be healing nicely :T
Julie hope your knee is healing well too xx
Tenyearstogo congrats on getting the job :T
Have a great Saturday everyone
