The Mrs and i are off to Oz in Jan,stopping off in Hong Kong for 2 nights on the way back. Any recommendations on things to do? Have been told The Cosmopolitan is a decent hotel? Any ideas?

You'll probably be tired, so Star Ferry, Peak (ONLY IF CLEAR) and usual stuff in your guide book will soon fill that time.

Hong Kong tourist information is very good. They have a kiosk in the airport (just before you leave the secure area), so be sure to stop, have a word with them and pick up some leaflets.

I have stayed at the Cosmopolitan a couple of times and it's pretty good with easy access to Wan Chai and Causeway Bay. Don't go for the cheap rooms, the windows are frosted, the racecourse view is the best.

If you are using the Airport Express to Central the free bus does not stop at the Cosmopolitan so get the bus to the nearest Hotel and grab a cab. Always buy Airport Express ticket in pairs they are cheaper, do not use the ticket machines, buy from the counter at the entrance to the train.

try some dim sum (char siu bao while you are there if you like BBQ pork)

also go across the bay on the star ferry and check out The Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery on Lantau Island

Go to Stanley if you get the chance. There's a market and a lovely prom you can walk along with a beach and a small temple to look around. Easily done in a morning or afternoon.

As said, The Star Ferry and if clear, the Peak.

Hong Kong is one of my favourite places, I love it there.
