Electoral Register

Hello All,
Can anybody possibly answer this question please.
I think my credit rating is poor because I am not registered on the electoral register. When I do register how long before my credit rating would improve?
How will credit reference agencies know I am now on the electoral register?
Thanks in advance, Bert

The changes will be reported to CRAs - within 6 weeks I believe. You'll be able to check this has happened through your credit report.

It won't necessarily improve your "rating" (remember, the rating is only a score given to you by the CRA - what's important is what's on your report - NOT what your score is).

Having said that, being on the electoral roll is really important to lenders - if you aren't on it you'll fall at the first hurdle with some credit checks, even if you're borrowing history is fantastic.

when i registered it took several months to appear on my credit report, and it wasn't during the annual canvas either. how it affects your report may vary, but mine improved drastically almost overnight when i went on the ER. I know this, because from my ER status appearing on credit reports, applications i made were since accepted without questions asked or referrals. before it was either flat out refusal, or referral and then refusal. Electronic identification for the like of bank accounts and stuff also works now, whereas before it never did for me.

I'd say it's worth doing just to make life easier.. and this is coming from someone who is pretty "anti state" and very "anti big brother"...
    Oh, you wee bazza!
