phone insurance

I have phone insurance which is included in my bank account as I pay a fee each month to have it included. I have had this cover for the last 3 years or so without claiming. I was just wondering, if I were to by a damaged phone I.e ( cracked screen but still working ) replace the new cracked phone with my previous phone on the insurance. Use the phone for a month or so and then claim under the insurance for a new phone or free screen replacement, would I get away with it?
Its a bit cheeky I know but just curious?
Effectively, if this is the case, people could buy a dead iPhone for next to nothing put it on their insurance with bank and apply for a new phone. Am I right?

Mmm, would you get away with committing fraud. Let me think....0 -
I suspect this question is a fair part of why iPhone excesses are typically triple that for other phones....0

I think you need to supply the receipt of the phone.
So that would flag up that it was 2 nd hand and cheap.0 -
Actually I doubt you would need to supply a receipt to be honest. Most people get phones included with contracts still (I believe) so wouldn't have a receipt per se (certainly not one that states near the handset value or replacement value)
Bottom line, I suspect it probably is abused fairly successfully by people, but it is fraudulent, ethically questionable and highly inadvisable.0 -
It's not 'cheeky'. It's fraud.0

The important thing OP is what will the bank cover...
People assume whats covered on the freebie insurances is the same as what a specialist phone insurer would cover......
ITS NOT
generally the banks offer a lesser cover. ie they might only cover theft as opposed to a breakage.
whic bank?Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0 -
"The important thing OP is what will the bank cover"
no - the important thing is that the OP is talking about fraud0 -

I agree its fraud...
What i was pointing out is people assume the cover is the same as the the actual insurers cover.
What you and me type wont change the OP's decision. But they should check the coverage before trying to commit fraudPromo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0
