Please HELP! Honeymoon hotel cancelled 1wk before!

I definately would not use lowcostholidays - they are well known for overbooking. They just tell you on arrival though, so you don't even get a chance to look at alternatives, you are stuck with what they give you.
They are a bed bank so just sell as many rooms as they possibly can to make money. They personally don't care if your hotel room is not available on arrival - they have had their money!!0 -
OK, so you have flights all sorted to the Dominican Republic. It is a country with good internal transport and a vast choice of accommodation. So you can be certain that somewhere there, a hotel / resort that is just right for you will have availability. So forget about cancelling flights, and concentrate on choosing where you want to stay.
Remember that you are in a strong position, since the agent has been forced to break their contract with you and so needs to find an acceptable alternative. If you find somewhere more expensive but broadly comparable with what you booked, they are likely to pay the difference. And don't feel limited to the resort you originally booked: DR has good roads and luxurious buses, with domestic flights for longer journeys.
Good luck!0 -
Hi all,
Thanks for your help.
Well the drama eventually got sorted by Tuesday lunchtime!!
We spent Friday night researching new hotels and made a top 3, then on Saturday put to them our chosen top alternative that we would accept which was an adults only and had a honeymoon suite available. All be it £200 more than we'd paid, but a very similar hotel and package overall.
It took them all day Saturday, closed Sunday and all day Monday (contacting local Dominican office and delay due to time difference) to still not get us an answer as to whether they would give us the honeymoon suite in the new hotel we'd requested. They were willing to give us a cheaper room in the hotel (which did match what we had paid to them then surprisingly).
By Tuesday we'd had enough and just wanted it sorted, its our Wedding four days later (this Saturday)!!! Didn't need the stress and wanted our last few days not worrying about our back and forth with travel agents.
So we asked the agent to book through a different company and paid the now down to £160 extra. So we were glad to have it sorted, us in control, the new place is prob soooo much nicer than the old one (the honeymoon suite is gorgeous and the spa is free). So we shall we getting our £160's worth.
We were advised to write to the customer relations dept and try and recoup the cost. Which we will do on our return... unless we have an amazingly fab time and think you know what it was worth that extra and we can't be bothered with complaint letter writing.
Thought you might like to know the update and outcome!0 -
All that's left to say then is have a fabulous wedding day, and an amazing honeymoon. You will need to chill out in that spa after all the stress. Well done for getting it all sorted when you have so much other stuff going on that needs your time too.

Just as a bit of insight to the OP I've just seen that a load of my colleagues are at that hotel for a industry conference that started on Tuesday night and apparently had more late bookings than expected.
Can't honestly imagine any of them deserved the Honeymoon suite and it's probably no consolation to you but seems to be a case of 'money talks'
Not sure I'd be wanting to spend my honeymoon in the same place where there's a big global conference going on irrespective of the hotels reputation0
