Why is that? I can not believe we are even talking about this!!

y? The boss is being illegal in his actions by the looks of it. The op's partner should challenge it but I don't feel it will end well.

What do you mean why? The OP surely knows she is meant to get a payslip - so why ask about being paid £5 when we all know the boss is underpaying the staff

Either get her to ask for a payslip or you can report him to the HMRC and the NMW hotline thing

Or do as others will probably advise shut up and put up to keep the job

The guys words exactly were, it is going through the books, so my Mrs got £40 for 8 hours work, I told her this was not right and to question him, his response was the rest went on tax and national insurance, Now my Mrs work 17+ years in a supermarket part time 16 hours per week and she never paid tax or national insurance for that matter.

So it is cash in hand, just not the correct amount of cash in said hand.

    then he is a liar

There is no tax and Ni on NMW @ 8 hours

Get her to ask for a payslip to show that they have taken TAX and NI and if she wont ask then there is nothing we can do about it

Its only cash in hand if it is as we assume he is not paying tax or ni or anything at all just UNDERPAYING

In which case, he will have no issues producing payslips ....
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'
