DLA Texts.

Is it usual for DLA to text you about your claim these days?
I sent off my DLA renewal on Tuesday, recorded delivery, and recieved a text stating;
"Thank you for your DLA claim, it could take upto 8 weeks to make a decision, we will text you to keep you informed".
Will i also recieve letters? Or are they just texting people these days?
Even if i do recieve letters, i find this practice highly unprofessional if i'm to be honest.

Yes, they are texting people, it would have told you this in the application pack. What is unprofessional about keeping you updated?
Yes, you will receive letters also, but not until they have something to tell you (waiting for more information/ you need a medical assessment/ your award has been decided).0 -
I just think it's unprofessional, a letter on headed paper would be more professional. Maybe i'm old fashioned.
Thank you for your reply.
I did read the information with my renewal pack, although most of it has slipped my mind.

Texts can be deleted, phones can be lost, a letter can be stored correctly and safely incase the form goes walkabout and i have proof in black and white on headed paper that they have recieved my claim, along with the signed for registered post details.
Will i recieve a letter stating they have recieved my claim aswell as the text.
Edit: I'm not disputing that it is not nice to be updated on my claim. I'm disputing the use of texts if the information is not then backed up with an official letter. This would come in handy when things go wrong for a claimant and the need for a complaint and an appeal needs to be processed.
This is more what i'm getting at.

Letters can be lost also - texts can only be deleted if you choose to do so. Plus texts can be stored on memory cards, downloaded to a computer etc.
Yes, I would say you are being old fashioned about it
You will receive a letter once they start considering your application.0 -

- you are legally entitled to old slow~go snail mail with a Queens head stamp
- you put yourself in their preferred fast lane by supplying a telephone number and contact details
- its a choice, some will find it their preferred choice, others not, you gave away your entitlement when you supplied Tel & email
As others have stated its critical that you record in at least 2 safe places all COMM's. New applications in the future of almost all claims will be electronic only - zero telephone - Best of luck !
NOTE :
The new claims process will be digital. Many people including the experienced, will have problems understanding the IA technology and how to proceed, let alone the readiness of the system to cope. UC of course is the GOV's first ' Identity Assurance' based internet process where each individual will have to positively assert their identity to the satisfaction of the software / department concerned such as HB [local] HMRC [national] DWP [national etc.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem.
