Regardless of insurance, flexible TL bookings can be cancelled.

"Yes, you can cancel or amend Flexible Rate bookings online by visiting the Manage your Bookings section of the website. Bookings need to be cancelled before 12 noon on the day of arrival for a full refund.

If you have a MyTravelodge account, then you can also log in and follow the links to the 'My Bookings' section. Please note that multiple room bookings with different confirmation numbers need to be cancelled individually."
There is no point taking out the Travelodge cancellation insurance policy if you book flexible rooms as they allow you to cancel. You in fact get the cancellation cover in with the higher room rate.

But the op cancelled and got no refund. He hadn't bought flexible rooms!

The OP has not stated that he did not buy flexible rooms. You are surmising this.

Perhaps the OP can confirm or otherwise the type of rooms that he bought.

The FOS has given you duff advice. It makes no difference that the insurer is regulated out of Malta they still come under the authority of the FOS when writing policies here under the EU passport scheme.

Even the policywording gives the FOS details as the point of complaint escalation but you'd need to exhaust their internal complaints process first (or pass 8 weeks from submitting the complaint)

By all means go through the complaints procedure as you were misinformed about cancelling.

I can understand why the insurance does not cover cancellation. I have regularly bought saver rooms at £19 when the flexible rate has been above £80. It would be pointless paying the £80 for the cancellation advantage if for £1.50 insurance this could be covered on a £19 booking

Best of luck with the complaint..

All im bothered about is losing 2 rooms by being misinformed. If the insurance person had said to me, if you cancel you will not get any insurance as you are not covered in section ????? as we do not cover event cancellations. I would have therefore kept the rooms and used them by taking my wife and daughter to Manchester and seeing what else is on offer.

The fact is ive lost rooms because I was told to cancel them then claim the insurance from the insurance people.

how many people do they tell to do this?

    No.

You are "surmising" the op bought flexible rooms, when he clearly didn't!

(Had he bought as you surmised, then he wouldn't have come here in the first place! As he wouldn't have anything to complain about!)

because I was told to cancel them
Did they give you an imperative?
Or were they explaining the process in the context of you explaining you no longer wanted the rooms?

I would have thought it was very clear that the decision to cancel was yours and this was not an imperative or giving authority.

I would suggest if you think you are getting an authority for costs in future to get a reference number & name or fax/email etc.

It doesn't sound to me that you were given an authorisation from the insurer here.
