Can anyone help-hijackthis log?

Hello all,

My laptop has been running fairly slow lately-esp. when opening up new programmes and when it is first switched on.

I have run the ccleaner programme and have heard that hijackthis log is a good thing to do, so I have just done it-but what the heck does it mean? Can anyone help me-it seems really long and complicated? Thanks

Hi beachlou,

I don't know much about these logs but it appears you have elements of both Norton and AVG anti-virus software. You should only have one anti-virus software installed on a pc.

Best thing is to sit tight and wait for some of the HJT log experts such as: Browntoa and pchelpman. They will help you in the right direction.

yes , I agree you should not have AVG + Nortons running , this is probably the source of the slowness ( if the slowness contines after the fixes then remove Norton to see it it cures the ptoblem, you can always re download from Btbroadband)

If Nortons is up to date and your subscrition is running then just remove AVG from ADD/Remove programs, if you want to get rid of Nortons and keep AVG then use this tool ( I assume the Nortons is the free one from BTBroadband )

if you remove nortons then let me know as we will need to replace the firewall element with a free one

you need to first install hijackthis in it's own directory such as

c:\hijackthis\

then run the program again and tick these items (this is essential to keep the back up files that it creates)

Thanks so much for all your advice Browntoa. I have removed Nortons (you were right, it wsa the free one). What free firewall element can I use?

Also, I have tried rerunning ccleaner but it doesn't come up with the log file like it did the first time I did it. I have tried reinstalling it again, but it still didn't come up so I haven't been able to do the second thing you told me to do-any ideas?

You mean HijackThis. Click Scan, let it finish and then click Save Log.

I believe 'Spyware Doctor' may be spyware in itself...

I suggest downloading 'Spybot Search & Destroy' and running this to see what it finds
