it seems to me he's done his best to leave his wife in a stable-ish position whilst he is in prison ie: no credit card debt or overdraft as she is non-working. I suspect his heart is in the right place and who's to say someone else in his situation would not do the same?
So you're expressing an opinion on his motives and suggested that it is the right thing to do (i.e. a moral judgement) but then go on to say
I'm not discussing the morals of the story here, just stating facts.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

You don't see that there's a difference between knowing you won't have a means to repay because you are in prison to still having access to funds, a salary and the opportunity of alternative employment?
Hmm. There might be a difference in 'moral status' between being in prison or being redundant.

But the fact is that OP's OH is awaiting sentence which means he might or might not go to prison. Which is about equivalent to being in the consultation period for redundancy where you might or might not lose your job.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

If the OP wants to get legal advise...

Chance of someone who works in law writing the above? About 0%. It's "advice". It's about as believable as a paramedic writing "ambuwlins".
