Help needed re: Homebase and lack of refund

Options
I will try and keep this as short as possible but I still haven't received a refund from Homebase despite writing a letter of complaint. The basics of this are as follows:

04.05.13 - ordered from them at a cost of £495.95 and paid via debit card. Delivery was stated to be within 14 days.

15.05.13 - I checked the order status online and it said the supplier had been unable to contact me. I rang and said someone would have been on that number all day - I gave them a 2nd contact number. The man said that someone would ring me within 24 hours to arrange delivery.

18.05.13 - no one had contacted me so I emailed to ask to cancel the order and get a refund.

21.05.13 - I received an email - she looks to have not read my cancelation request as she talks about rearranging a delivery. She said that she had tried to ring me and she gave a number which is nowhere near mine.

21.05.13 - I rang again to complain and to chase my refund - she said she would request it straight away and that the money would go back into my account within 5 days. I asked her to confirm this in an email but she said she could not.

30.05.13 - The money had not been refunded so I rang again, she said that due to an IT problem, she could not cancel the order and someone would have to look at it. She said that she would raise a cheque and it would take up to 7 days for me to receive it.

Today - no sign of the cheque.

Please can anyone advise what steps I can now take - its a lot of money which I can't afford to lose.

Thanks
Angela

Until someone a bit more knowledgeable comes along, I'd say phone your bank and request a chargeback for non receipt of goods (correct me if I'm wrong).
Any views are my own and may not always be correct - though i do try :o
