Cleaning mould off a bathroom ceiling

Options
Where do I start? It's got deeply embossed paper, so just wiping it over isn't going to get me anywhere.

To make it more difficult, I can't really reach the ceiling, it's quite high. Even if I get the stepladder up there, it's going to be a struggle. But DS2 is coming home this weekend, so once he's sorted out the 'stuff' in his bedroom I thought I could set him a challenge ... he's taller than me!

Would a steam cleaner help, do you think?

Steam cleaner would, but I always do mine with bleach. Gets it off beautifully.

I'd be wary of using a steam cleaner on paper tbh, you might find you start loosening the seams.

I have the same problem in this rented place. I've used bleach and also sugar soap.

When I used bleach, the mould came back quickly. When I used sugar soap it stayed away for much longer. Needless to say it's sugar soap all the way now.

    Horrible job.

Dettol mould and mildew remover is really good stuff, just spray it on and leave it, I am always amazed by the results

It's getting it into the crevices of the wallpaper which concerns me, and then it dripping down ...

So, soft brush and some sugar soap solution? wiping with a cloth as we go?

Just wondering, have you used it on textures, or just smooth surfaces?

Only tiles and hard surfaces, best to test it in an inconspicuous surface first

If you have mould on the ceiling it would indicate that you may have a condensation problem!
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

I use a non stick pan scourer sponge thing for the flat bits and an old soft pan scrubber thing for the textured bits (it's like a brush on a handle iyswim).

I rinse with clean warm water and cloth and open the window wide to help dry it off quickly.

Ours needs done again but I'm away for the weekend. I'm going to leave the packet of sugar soap out on the worktop and hope OH takes the hint whilst I'm away. :D

We definitely do. We were supposed to be getting an extractor put in but that has never materialised so all we can do is open the window and dry off what we can where we can.

Yes, we do have a condensation problem. No extractor fan, but there's a small window always open when that bathroom is in use (it often isn't, IYSWIM). And we leave the door open.

We live live in an older house and invested in a Dehumidifier .

A good investment. A bit noisy at night so we put it on a timer.

    No problems now.
