Backdating tax credits

All their literature says that tax credits are automatically backdated to the date you became eligible, or 3 months prior to your application date, whichever is less. But I just got my award details and it's only backdated to my application date. I rung them and they've put in a request to get the backdated payment, but if I'd known they would do this I would have requested it a long time ago. Just venting!

Quick question... are you on Income Support, JSA (Income Based) or Pension Credits? If so, that is the reason your claim did not automatically backdate. The literature is correct, but for some reason, if you are on any of the above benefits the system only picks up your backdate from the date the application was recieved. Hope this helps.

Thanks, that would explain it if I was on them but I'm not!

I received a backdated tax credit rapayment today. I started my 2nd job of the last tax year on 15th August buy my original claim was dated 19th September. When I rang up about this a couple of weeks ago they asked me to confirm my employer and start date but the information they had was for something totally different and dated 19th September!!
I got my extra £225 paid in today so didnt take them too long to sort it. I asked about my 1st job which I started on 13th June but as there was 3 weeks in between jobs they cant manually backdate it (maximum is 7 days!). They gave me a 'Backdating Requests' address to write to and they will decide apparently.0
