Think Hotel Rating Has Changed

I'm pretty sure the hotel I recently booked with virgin for a holiday to Cuba has changed ratings since booking.

It is the Breezes Bella Costa in Varadero. I'm sure it was a 4star but is now showing as a 3star. Having checked with other companies (Holiday Place, Thomas Cook) and they are showing as 4star.

I've checked through some TripAdvisor reports with other people that have flown with Virgin and they state it was a 4star, but those reviews are not current.

Is there a way I can find out if it has recently changed ratings, and if I ring Virgin and ask them directly am I likely to get the truth?

Bit worried now, as I wasn't expecting much from a 4star in Cuba, but a 3 ...

There isn't any international standard to what stars for hotels mean so I wouldn't rely on them anyway.

I was thinking the same, ringing virgin would be a waste of time as their rating is their rating, regardless wether the hotel has changed its rating

No virgin has changed the rating. I think it was a 4star with Virgin at time of booking and now virgin have changed their rating to 3star

In which case that's Virgin trying to standardise the star ratings across the hotels in their brochure. The hotel may describe themselves as a 4* but they would be 3* by Virgin standards.

Personally, I pay very little attention to star ratings.

Can they do that though. I'm positive it was 4* when I booked through Virgin and paid accordingly. I wouldn't have booked a 3*, or certainly wouldn't have spent as much.

Is there a way I can find out when they changed the rating on their website?

I know it sounds like nit picking, but I've paid a fortune for this holiday, and as going with kids it has to be great. If virgin feel the place should go down a rating, it doesnt fill me with confidence.

Virgin's v ratings don't relate to any other star rating system.

Q: What does the V rating for hotels mean?

A: To help you choose which hotel is right for you we have adopted our own V-rating system. Our properties range from a minimum 2V, which offers great value, to 5V which are Deluxe, top class hotels.

Virgin are the only people who might be able to tell you why they've changed their rating
