Wallpapering chimneybreast

Hi
I am wallpapering chimneybreast only. Dropped a plumb line but when I have got to the last bit of wallpaper which goes around the corner of the chimneybreast the top of wallpaper goes around about 3" and the bottom goes around about 2". So how do I put next bit on straight. To make matters worse it is a striped paper I have chosen. First time I have wallpapered.

trial and error get the sharpest stanley blade you can and cut a piece out in the corner and slide together
tip is cut small and as you can always take a bit more out afterwards if need be and make sure you have loads of paste on the point of the cut to help it slideneed to have a lightbulb moment0 -
I hate stripes, they are the worst to hang, but here is a simple way of getting round the corner of the chimney breast.
Always measure the face of the breast, and you should start in the middle.
So say for example you drop one length in the middle, and you work away from the middle bit, right and left.
so when you bring your paper round the corner, you are not going to be able to butt the next piece as it will be out.
So, you have hung your first bit (middle), and the bit next to it, say for example looking at it face on is going round the right hand corner.
Paste another length, the exact same as the one going round the corner.
Finish paper is 20.5 inches wide, (dont do cms) so you have for example 12" on the breast bit and the other 8" is going round the corner, then just place the 8" or so with the same matching stripe on top of the bit going round the corner, dont do this right on the corner, but if you come round a couple of inches, but get as near to the corner as you can
Then get a very sharp blade, and a straight edge, and a very steady hand, and cut through the two lengths, (the bit thats already gone round the corner, and is out, and the length you have pasted that you have put over the paper)
So, now you have two bits the same going round the corner, lift the bit you have cut, and remove the other wonky bit and throw away, then replace with the bit you have just cut through.
This will still give you the same butt end of paper that you have thrown away for any piece that you might want to butt into to finish the wall.
This is one of the most difficult things to explain.0 -
